This invention relates to methods for extracting sulfur from Claus process gases and may be used in the chemical industry. The aim of the invention is to increase the degree of sulfur recovery and eliminate the possibility of clogging equipment with sulfur. Example. The source gas containing,%: HQS 92-44, water 3.2 and oxygen and traces of hydrocarbons 3.6 under a pressure of 3.5, 5.6 and 84 atm., Mixed with pure oxygen and fed into a Claus oven. The flow is in equilibrium at an adiabatic ignition temperature. The hot gas containing sulfur and water is cooled in the evaporator to a temperature of 360 C. The effluent gas is further cooled in a condenser to produce a stream of water and liquid sulfur. Gas leaving the condenser is separated into a recycling gas and a clean gas stream. Water condenses with liquid sulfur at a pressure of 3.5 to 84 atm. The degree of sulfur separation increases from 88.4% to 97.9%, whereas in the prototype this value is 65-70%. Data on the sulfur recovery process is presented in the table.
